This Europa S1B was purchased on January 8, 1969 from the original owner, an artist, who said the luggage compartment was too small. It had less than 400 miles on the odometer. Current owner has had the car ever since (46 years). Lotus tells me that the car left the factory on February 29, 1968. It is all original except for Electronic ignition and high power coil, adjustable Spack shocks all around and a 1/3 enlarged new radiator and fan, MGB interior door handles and new carpeting. The instrument panels have been re-venired. The Battery has been relocated and headlamps upgraded. The pop-out windows have been replaced with Lexan.
Current owner has raced Lotuses since the early sixties and was his own race mechanic (Lotus 7, Lotus 23B and Lotus Europa 47, Lotus Esprit S1 restored by him but not raced, and a Lotus Esprit S4). This Europa was never raced but was maintained for daily use. It has approximately 45,000 street miles. This car has never been in an accident and was repainted once in it’s original yellow. It is my pride and joy, is an absolute Joy to drive and handles much like much race cars. This is an early model so it still has the high side wings and no running lights on the front nose and the flat front fenders - the most desirable body shape. However, too many Lotuses that forced my wife’s car out of the garage prompt this reluctant sale.
