HutchisonAs summer is upon us, I have found that
the heat drives many shows to the spring and fall. That
being said, there are the still the "standards" that will
always be on the calendar.
This
year, I was fortunate enough to attend the
24 Hours of
LeMans with some local Philadelphia area Morgan club
members on their annual pilgrimage. Having been on my
car guy bucket list, this was one of the most truly memorable
events I have ever attended. Click for a
photo.
This
year, the Circuit de Sarthe celebrated the 40th anniversary of
the making of the movie Lemans and the 50th year for
Corvette. The weather was great, the track was
spectacular and the food and people were great!
Oh, and
racing was "world class" as
Peugeot battled
Audi and,
much to the dismay of the French, Audi triumphed.
I highly
recommend a trip to Lemans and I am planning to return to
attend the bi-annual Classic LeMans in July
2012.
We also attended the “
La
Bella Macchine d' Italia” held every year on the last
weekend in July at Skytop Lodge in the Poconos. This
show is the third largest Italian motoring event in North
America as it brings out many contemporary Italian super cars
as well as a vintage street and race cars. The venue is
beautiful and cars and the people to say the least are very
colorful. It is always a great day. Here's a photo of
Alfa's
from the 70s.

On Saturday,
July 31, we plan to support and attend the new “
Doylestown at
Dusk “ show, formerly known as the “Heart of Bucks.”
This show has now moved to the evening hours in the downtown
area. I am sure with their long history that the new
show will be a big success. Entry forms are available on their
website.
As always, we also plan to support and
attend the
New Hope Auto Show,
held this year on August 14-15 at the New Hope-Solebury High
School. For the first time, the show will include Road
Rally through Bucks County! Here’s your chance to take a
first-place trophy at the New Hope Automobile Show no matter
what car you drive! Visit the website to see more
information about the rally and which day to pre-register your
show car. Look for our Pollock/Ragtops tent at the end
of the parking lot.

The ABRR is on! Now in it's sixth
year,
ABBR once again will be
held in three regions of the country. Founder and
Michigan ABRR organizer, Blake Discher, will have runs
originating in Alabama, Pennsylvania and Michigan on the
weekend of September 24-26.

MarchioneOn May 15-16, I was fortunate enough to
attend Saratoga Springs Spring Auto Show and Invitational. I
had heard from my sister Connie and my brother-in-law Fred,
who had been to Saratoga Springs for Morgan events, that this
was a beautiful venue for a car show.
They were right! The
show field features a reflecting pool, which is surrounded by
the invitational concours automobiles, beautiful park grounds
and the Saratoga Springs auto museum.

"Rick, I just wanted to let you and your R&R
colleagues know how well my Austin Healey is doing after
spending the winter with you. I am particularly enjoying the
new aural sensations: on the plus side, the new radio/MP3
sound is a great improvement and on the eliminating a negative
side (a plus), I didn’t realize how bad the window rattles
> were until they went away.
Thanks for suggesting that
the rattles could be eliminated: what a difference!
Mechanically, the car has never been better: it is a joy to
drive. I’m looking forward to a great
summer.
Thanks.
