New Hope Auto Show

The 58th Annual New Hope Auto Show was held on its traditional weekend on August 8th and 9th. The featured "marque" was convertibles and they showed up in every class. We were pleased to once again sponsor this event that benefits the Solebury High School Scholarship Program and Fox Chase Cancer Center. Sunday's show was at full capacity with European cars. Below our friends Betty, Don, Joe, Mark, Lori and Karl had a great day!

Vintage Triumph Register 2015 National Convention

This year we headed west to attend the 2015 Vintage Triumph Register National Convention in Geneva Lake, Wisconsin. In the trailer was the 1960 Triumph Italia 2000 GT Vignale #122 for it's VTR debut. We had one goal in mind... A Gold Award. After two days of driving we arrived at The Abbey on Lake Geneva, a very nice resort and our host hotel. After off loading the car, we met "The Stig" and attended the Welcome Reception featuring the Spinal Tappets. I still like Smoke from the Dashboard! TS1, the very first side screen is critiqued by Bill Reddinger and Mike Cook after a recent restoration.
We had relaxing day or two of socializing with Marsha and Bob Hunter, met some old VTR friends, attended a couple of tech sessions and we enjoyed the ice cream run. Show day started with a short run to take a panoramic photo at 7AM, then off to the Concours show back at The Abbey. The judges came through, nodded their heads and thanked us for bringing the car while many attendees came by to take a look and ask a question or two or compliment the presentation of the Italia.
The show ended, then we were off on a boat tour of Lake Geneva. The day ended with the VTR Banquet back at the Abbey where we got what we were hoping for, a VTR Gold Award! Congratulations to Alan and Robin Anspaugh and to our teams at Ragtops & Roadsters and Pollock Auto Restoration for this collaborative effort.

DVT Summer Picnic

This year the Delaware Valley Triumph Club Summer picnic was hosted by Mike and Cheryl Hoinowski. We were treated to a great picnic and got a look at Mike's new car barn. A rather eclectic group of some rare Triumphs showed this year including a TR5, a Hathaway, two very original TR3s, and two Triumph Italia 2000s! Thanks to Mike and Cheryl for a very nice afternoon!

Shop Report

Getting back to the roots – 1959 Elva Courier

by Ragtops & Roadsters Shop Manager, Dave Jago

We’re currently working on a great example of the early days of British car engineering/construction. A client’s 1959 Elva Courier is in our shop for repair and refresh, to get her back into shape as a nice driver car. Constructed of good pedigree – MGA power plant and Triumph suspension – she was a full two seconds faster 0-60 mph than the MGA itself, due to the reduced weight of her fiberglass body. Our project is having us repair some damage from an accident in her past. We were reviewing the suspension needs for the front end, and found some unsafe conditions with twisted structure, poor gusseting, and even torn metal at the top shock mount. After some metalwork to correct the shape and position of the chassis, we’ll begin putting the steering and suspension back in place. The roots for the name “Elva” are from the French “Elle va” which means “she goes.” Our work will ensure she goes straight…

America's British Reliability Run

Almost totally booked! Just a few rooms left! NOW is the time to make your reservation if you plan to attend. Since 2002, America’s British Reliability Run has raised over $150,000 for worthy children’s charities all over the US. We’re at it again in 2015! On the weekend of Oct 16-18, up to 40 classic British Cars will leave on a three day, 600 mile journey through the back roads of PA, NY and NJ to benefit the St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children. Along the way, we’ll take in some of the best scenery the northeast has to offer at a time when fall colors should be near their peak. Watkins Glen, Seneca Lodge, Lake Seneca, Northeast Classic Car Museum, a tour of a private British Car collection and more! Each two person team is responsible for their own expenses and will solicit donations from family, friends and others with a goal of raising $500 each for the partner charity. We will show you how! ARE YOU UP FOR IT? Consider joining us as a participant, or sponsoring one of our teams with a tax deductible contribution. Space is limited! Make plans to get involved soon!
